So now you know the reason I’m drawn to this image!!

Lee Craig replied:

That would be an incredible shock to end up on this road unintentionally! Yikes!

Quite a few years back, my husband and I inadvertently found ourselves crossing this hair raising drive (seems it had a hwy # on the map so we were shocked it was unpaved)! Thanks for the memory with this great image!!

Great use of black and white to remind us of an era marking a distinctive period and the purpose for this trail then!

Artist's Description

Presented in detailed black and white for the discerning collector. The Apache Trail in Arizona was a stagecoach trail that ran through the Superstition Mountains. It was named the Apache Trail after the Apache Indians who originally used this trail to move through the Superstition Mountains. The Trail winds steeply through 40 miles of extremely rugged desert mountains, past deep reservoir lakes like Canyon Lake and Apache Lake. The narrow, winding road is unpaved from just east of the town of Tortilla Flat to Roosevelt Dam; there are steep cliff drops and little in the way of safety barriers. It isn￿t for the faint of heart! I suggest that you stop for a breather and refreshments at the Superstition Saloon, because from there on if it weren￿t for the ever changing vista, you would wish you were safely on black top once again!

About Lee Craig

Lee Craig

I am a photographer and visual artist, enjoying the freedom that comes with doing something that I love for a living. I often jokingly refer to myself as a recovering portrait, event and commercial photographer. Several times a year I leave the studio behind. I load the equipment and head out on the open road with camera in hand and photos in mind. You'll see from my various collections that although I sometimes follow the same path as many others, I most often take a road or trail less travelled. I may start the journey with one goal in mind and find myself at the end of the day having wandered far from the planned and beaten path. The art in my collections is all suitable for home and business settings and venues. It is available...
