Description
The sun casts a glow down the back side of the mountain on Oak Creek near Sedona.
Oak Creek Canyon is a river gorge located along the Mogollon Rim in northern Arizona between the cities of Flagstaff and Sedona. The canyon is often described as a smaller cousin of the Grand Canyon because of its scenic beauty.
The Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona area is second only to Grand Canyon as the most popular tourist destination in Arizona. Oak Creek, a tributary of the Verde River, flows along the bottom of the canyon, and is one of the few perennial streams in the high desert region of northern Arizona.
Slide Rock State Park, home to a natural water slide along Oak Creek, is also located within Oak Creek Canyon.
Sedona straddles the county line between Coconino and Yavapai counties in the northern Verde Valley region of Arizona in the United States. The area is famous for red stone formations. The formations appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun. At an elevation of 4,500 feet, Sedona has mild winters and summers.
