The Mogollon Rim is a place of beauty, amazing views and incredibly rough roads! It extends approximately 200 miles and is about 8,000 feet above sea level at its highest point. The Mogollon Rim goes across the entire Coconino National Forest and provides excellent views within Plateau Country and Desert Canyon Country as well. Dropping as much as 2,000 feet in some areas, the Rim provides some of the most far-reaching scenery in Arizona.
Cities and towns near the Mogollon Rim include Payson, Sedona, Show Low, Alpine and Pinetop-Lakeside. The western novel author Zane Grey built a hunting cabin on the slopes of the Mogollon Rim just northeast of Payson, above Tonto Creek.
I spent a glorious ten hours on the Rim…lost! Little did I know when I started out that my navigation and cell service would not be working once I entered this wonderland? It got a little scary along toward sunset, but a couple of Elk hunters came to my rescue and pointed me in the direction of civilization. I...
