Description
The spectacular and colorful geography seen in this photograph is due to the series of volcanoes that created the Superstition Mountains and the Goldfield Mountains. Yellows, oranges and brick reds of fused volcanic ash with abundant desert vegetation and lichens made for wondrous scenery. Spring on the Apache Trail, or in the desert for that matter, has its own unique beauty, but this was beyond beautiful.
The Apache Trail in Arizona was a stagecoach trail that ran through the Superstition Mountains. It was named the Apache Trail after the Apache Indians who originally used this trail to move through the Superstition Mountains. The Trail winds steeply through 40 miles of extremely rugged desert mountains, past deep reservoir lakes like Canyon Lake and Apache Lake. The narrow, winding road is unpaved from just east of the town of Tortilla Flat to Roosevelt Dam; there are steep cliff drops and little in the way of safety barriers. It isnt for the faint of heart! I suggest that you stop for a breather and refreshments at the Superstition Saloon, because from there on if it werent for the ever changing vista, you would wish you were safely on black top once again!

Lee, Great Capture! I have been down this road many times and every time my wife was nervous going down Fish creek Hill! The drive was always worth it as we spent many weekends boating and jet skiing on Apache Lake! This rugged area has inspired me to capture it on Canvas to share with others! F/L JERRY

Gorgeous depth and fantastic detail in this multi-layered landscape! I like the way it progresses from warm to cool and how the river leads me to into the distance! Looks like it was a wonderful hike :-)
